The sustainable extra-charge - named in "futuro"The "futuro"-sign looks a bit like the €uro. Each shows a price; where € is the price we have to pay on the market, futuro signifies a fictitious sustainable extra-charge, which assesses sustainability regarding ecological and social criteria. The higher the sustainable price of a product, the less sustainable is the product. |

Participatian and scientific workSo far the algorithm to calculate sustainable prices includes the following sustainability criteria: "fair wages“, "social standards“, "CO2 emissions“, "usage of agricultural land“, "toxicity“ and "usage of material“. The sustainable price of a product consists of the objective characteristics of the product (e.g. wage unfairness or CO2 emissions during the production) and the democratically evaluated share of each sustainability criterium. |
After finishing the choice of the criteria to be in use in a first step by public participation, the futuro team started to develop the algorithm for calculating sustainable prices, well supported by experts from austrian universities. By the end of 2003 first futuro-prices for apple and orange juices were calculated and presented. |
Organisational and substantial support by akaryon:Coordination and assistance in the development of the calculation algorithm and its application on the first productsIn 2004 workshops are offered to the public to get closer to the algorithm in a theoretical and practical manner. |
